Big River Community Land Trust (BRCLT) is excited to announce a transformative opportunity for community members to double their impact in addressing the local housing crisis. Thanks to a generous matching gift, every dollar donated through the end of the year will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $50,000.

“We hear stories from every sector of our community as working folks struggle to find affordable housing in this area,” said Paul and Sue Pennington, “Or they decline job offers for essential positions and services once they realize that local housing prices are out of reach. The impact of this housing crisis in our area is immeasurable. Big River Community Land Trust offers real solutions and a sustainable way forward.”

This matching gift campaign is a critical step toward building BRCLT’s first-ever neighborhood, which will provide permanently affordable homes for local workers and families. These homes are part of an innovative community land trust model that ensures affordability for generations to come, keeping the gorge accessible to those who live and work here.

“This is a defining moment for our community,” said Alysha Sherburne, Executive Director of BRCLT. “By coming together, we can demonstrate our shared commitment to caring for our neighbors and building a sustainable future. Every donation counts, and with this matching gift, your contribution will go twice as far.”

The matching campaign not only empowers individual donors but also underscores a shared community responsibility to address the housing crisis and support those most affected by rising costs.

How You Can Help:

Why It Matters:

  • Housing instability affects everyone, from local businesses to schools and essential services.
  • A strong, supportive community begins with ensuring that everyone has a place to call home.
  • This is a unique opportunity to invest in a legacy of affordability in the gorge.

Big River Community Land Trust invites all community members, local businesses, and philanthropic organizations to rise to this challenge and help bring this vision to life. Together, we can create a neighborhood that reflects the heart of the gorge: compassion, resilience, and inclusivity.

With this matching gift, the Pennington’s hope to inspire others to get involved with creating sustainable housing solutions. “With your help, we can make affordable housing possible for more workers and families in the Columbia Gorge.
