Big River Community Land Trust will start building its first home this fall in Hood River County, just south of Windmaster Corner. Once completed, the home will be sold to a local buyer for less than $360,000, roughly half the current median home price in Hood River. A buyer will be selected from Big River’s buyer list using a weighted lottery system.

The small lot, that was gifted to the organization by the City of Hood River, will soon be graced by  a two-story, 3-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, 1300 square foot home. A single car garage will be attached out front, and a yard with patio will be found in the back. The home will also have solar power.

Big River has contracted with Simplicity by Haden Homes to build the house. This is a solid partnership as the company’s values closely align with those of the land trust. Big River is a not-for-profit focused on building and sustaining affordable work-force housing.  If you would like to donate to the project, or join the list of potential buyers, please visit Big River Community Land Trust online at www.BigRiverCLT.org.
