It is with mixed emotions that I announce the departure of Candice Richards, one of our founding board members at Big River Community Land Trust. Candice has been an integral part of our organization since its inception, helping to shape the vision and mission that guide us.
Raised in Hood River, Candice brought a deep connection to the community and a passion for ensuring access to affordable housing for those who live and work here. Her dedication and love for this community have left a lasting impact on the entire organization.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Candice for her years of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to our mission. While we will miss her on the board, we know she will continue to be a champion for affordable housing in the gorge.

In her stead, I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Jim Kacena to our Board of Directors. A resident of White Salmon, Jim brings an extensive background in real estate and land use law.
Jim’s professional background and deep understanding of development and community-focused housing solutions align perfectly with our mission of creating permanently affordable homes for local families. His insights and leadership will be instrumental as we begin our first projects.
Please join us in welcoming Jim Kacena to the Big River Community Land Trust family. Together, we are building a stronger, more equitable community for all!
